Studio Current worked with an extended Ownership / City Partnership / and JRDV Architects to transform three downtown San Jose buildings, plus a city-owned plaza space, into the city’s first Urban Market Square: San Pedro Square Market. Two historical buildings and a new metal building surround an urban plaza which features San Jose’s oldest existing structure, the Luis Maria Peralta Adobe which dates from 1777. These combine to form a multi-tenant marketplace with a food court, outdoor stage, and event space. Studio Current’s innovative approach on this project helped to earn a Design Award for Urban Planning from The American Institute of Architects (AIA).
