Bruce Taylor runs a billion-dollar-a-year lettuce & bagged salad business that revolutionized the way lettuce is harvested, processed and delivered to the people to eat. Bruce hired Jeff Current & his team at Barry Swenson Builder to design and build his new Mixed-Use Building in downtown Salinas to support him and his 150 employees. On the site of the former Hotel Caminos, our team created a 5-story office over retail in the Classic aesthetic of downtown urbanism. Brick from New Orleans is the primary cladding material with active storefronts of divided light wood windows and doors to access the many restaurants & retail spaces along Main Street. The Taylor Farms Offices and Test Kitchens occupy levels 3 through 5 with a large Outdoor Event space for company parties and product launch gatherings on the rooftop at level 4. This project sits directly across the street from the National John Steinbeck Center & Museum honoring one of California’s most beloved authors. Our project included a Public Plaza on the corner of Main St & Central Ave to create a place for downtown Salinas to hold events and people to gather in the heart of town.
